Global Order in a Time of Change
Led By Paul Nightingale and Maya Vachkova
This work package addresses the complex interplay of globalisation, climate change, and other systemic forces that impact governance and daily life. It aims to strengthen the UK’s role in shaping a secure, resilient, and just international order.
Aims and Objectives:
- Systemic Approaches: Explore scalable and transferable policies to address global challenges such as climate change, using systems thinking to propose and design measurable improvements in national and international interventions.
- Policy Evaluation: Critically evaluate policies targeting complex issues to ensure effective and ethical governance.
- Emerging Technologies: Investigate the dual role of emerging technologies as opportunities for development and potential threats to everyday life and human existence.
- International Governance: Examine the roles of international bodies like the UN Security Council, NATO, the African Union, and ASEAN in global cooperation, conflict escalation, and de-escalation.
- UK’s Global Role: Review Britain’s future relationships, power dynamics, and influence in a shifting global landscape, considering the rise of other global powers.
This initiative seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the evolving global order and to develop strategies that enhance the UK’s contribution to international stability and cooperation.
