Peer Reviewers and Process
The Peer Review community will assess applications that are aligned with the UKRI’s Building a Secure and Resilient world priority sub- themes in a fair and timely manner with equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) considerations.
Applications to the SALIENT Devolved Funding calls will be anonymised and assessed by a group of independent peer reviewers, and final review and decision making will be completed by the SALIENT Work package leads.
Membership
The Peer Reviewers are invited from a wide range of backgrounds including, but not limited to; academia, Government and industry. Please contact salient@manchester.ac.uk if you would like to join the SALIENT peer reviewer community.
Responsibilities
- Peer Reviewers will provide in-kind support and will be responsible for reviewing the SALIENT devolved funding (DF) call applications and providing feedback on the applications via the online FlexiGrant system.
- Peer reviewers will be sent a link to the FlexiGrant system and they will need to create and/ or activate their account to login. The whole process will be managed via the platform.
- DF award decisions will be made by the SALIENT work package leads, using evidence gathered from peer-review. Applications will be anonymised.
- UKRI may request records of the peer review and the decision-making process.
Expectations
- Peer Reviewers will ideally have experience of peer reviewing in a research setting.
- Peer reviewers will ideally have expertise, knowledge or understanding of the SALIENT work packages.
- Peer reviewers will be expected to review approximately 1-3 applications per round within a three-week period.
- Peer reviewers will be expected to review applications in the FlexiGrant system.
- Peer reviewers will be expected to familiarise themselves with the SALIENT work packages.
- Peer reviewers will be expected to act professionally when reviewing applications.
- Peer reviewers will be expected to declare any conflict of interest i.e. if applying to a call, they can’t then review applications within that call.

- Peer Reviewers will receive details of the types of research we do, including access to (where appropriate) outputs such as reports, papers/ journals etc.
- Peer Reviewers will receive early bird information on funding calls.
- Peer Reviewers will gain experience peer reviewing for a research Hub funded via a research council.
- Peer Reviewers, upon request can receive a SALIENT peer reviewer certificate.
- Peer Reviewers can promotion their events via SALIENT and Thomas Ashton Institute communications channels.
- There is potential for networking.
